Hillsboro Hops News Release
The Hillsboro Hops are on a historic run, winning nearly every game of one of the longest road trips in their history.
Hillsboro built an early 5-0 lead and held on for a 6-4 win at Salem-Keizer Friday night, their seventh win in nine days away from Ron Tonkin Field.
The Hops have taken the opening game of all three series on the road trip, winning the last two series, and are now a league-best 21-12 away from home in 2018.
Joey Rose and Francis Martinez each had three hits. Martinez drove in three with Rose collecting a run and an RBI.
Kenny Hernandez improved to 5-3 on the season with 3 1/3 innings of relief. The only hit he allowed was a home run by Giants' top pick Joey Bart, a solo shot with two outs in the fifth inning.
The Volcanoes had scored two runs in the fourth to close withing 5-3 before the Hops plated a run in the top half of the fifth on an infield hit to short by Martinez.
Hernandez retired the last seven batters he faced and struck out four without a walk. Cristofer Ogando pitched around a one-out double by David Villar in the eighth with a strikeout. Chester Pimentel recorded his fourth save of the trip with a scoreless ninth.
