The Rochester Red Wings pounded out 19 hits in a 20-3 route over the Buffalo Bisons Wednesday night at Frontier Field. Tomas Telis had a career-high six runs batted in, and Brandon Barnes hit his second grand slam with the Wings. A paid crowd of 11,557 enjoyed the offensive outburst - the fourth largest crowd of the season.

The Plates were able to get themselves out to an early lead against Bisons starter Tayler Saucedo. In the bottom of the first, Drew Maggi and Wilin Rosario were both hit by a pitch and Brandon Barnes reached on an error by Buffalo's catcher Michael De La Cruz to load the bases. Zander Wiel took the lead in the next at bat by drawing a walk to force home Maggi, and Tomas Telis crushed a double off the wall in right field, clearing the bases and giving Rochester a 4-0 lead.

Plates' starter Kohl Stewart settled himself into the game quickly and threw two scoreless innings while only allowing two hits.

Rochester broke the score open and put another crooked number up on the score board in the bottom of the second. Maggi reached base with a walk, followed by back-to-back singles from Willians Astudillo and Ramon Flores to load the bases again. After Rosario hit a sharp RBI single to left to plate Maggi, Barnes stepped up to the plate and sent his second grand slam this season with Rochester over the wall and into the bullpen in left field. Saucedo then gave up a single to Telis, and double to Ronald Torreyes and a walk to Ian Miller before he was replaced by Bisons reliever Matt Dermody. Saucedo finished with 1.2 innings pitched, while giving up eight hits, nine runs, five earned runs, three walks, and two hit batters. He threw 72 pitches, 40 for strikes. Dermody was able to register the final out of the inning, but not before the Rochester sent 11 batters to the plate and score five runs to extend their lead to 9-0.

After Stewart threw a scoreless top of the third, The Plates continued to tack on runs. In the bottom of the third, singles from Astudillo, Flores, and Rosario loaded the bases with no one out. Following a strikeout and a popout, Telis hammered a two-run single into left to give Rochester an 11-0 lead. The single gave Telis five RBI on the night, tying a career high that he set on 6/3/2011.

Stewart finished his strong outing going 5.0 innings, allowing only two hits, no runs, and striking out two. 42 of his 65 pitches were for strikes.

Buffalo was able to score their first run in the top of the sixth against Plates' reliever Ryan O'Rourke. Kevin Vicuna reached base after being hit by a pitch and came all the way around to score on three wild pitches. Later in the inning, Michael De La Cruz lined a two RBI single through the right side making the score 11-3 and knocking O'Rourke out of the game after 0.2 innings. Zack Littell came on in relief and recorded the final out of the inning.

The Plates responded with another big inning in the bottom of the sixth. The bases were once again loaded after a walk to Telis, a single by Torreyes and a walk to Miller. Maggi drew another walk to force Telis home and Astudillo smacked an RBI single into left to bring home Torreyes. In the next at bat, Flores ripped a bases clearing triple into the right-center field gap and came around to score on a passed ball on the next pitch. Two batters later, Zander Wiel hit his 35th double of the season, tying Luis Rodriguez for a Twins era franchise record for doubles in a season. Telis followed him up with a double of his own, driving in his sixth run of the game and setting a new career high. The huge inning was capped off by Torreyes hitting his 11th home run of the season into the bullpen in left, making the score 20-3. Rochester brought 12 men to the plate, batting around for the second time in the game and scored nine runs, setting a new season high for runs scored in an inning.

Littell threw 2.1 hitless innings with one strikeout before Jake Reed came on to pitch the ninth inning.

Buffalo brought in outfielder Roemon Fields to pitch the eighth and ninth innings.

NOTES: RHP Brusdar Graterol became the 70th different player to appear for the Red Wings this season on Wednesday, increasing the franchise record...20 runs was the most scored by the Red Wings since they scored 21 against Pawtucket on 8/30/2004...

THIS DAY IN RED WINGS HISTORY

1978 - First baseman Gary Roenicke was 3 for 4 with three runs, two home runs, and six runs batted in as the Red Wings beat the Chiefs 9-0 in Syracuse. Pitcher Sammy Stewart scattered six hits in a complete game shutout for Rochester. The win put the Wings within .5 games of the final playoff spot in the International League.

2005 - Pawtucket starter Mark Malaska led the PawSox to a 4-0 win over Rochester Monday night. Chris Heintz led off the seventh inning with a single, one of just three Red Wings hits on the night; it was the closest the Wings came to mounting a threat in the game. Rochester has lost four of five games - including three out of four to the PawSox - and now sits three games behind first place Buffalo in the IL North Division standings.

2006 - Alex Romero's 10th inning single gave the Red Wings a 4-3 win over the Syracuse SkyChiefs Tuesday night at Frontier Field. With first place Scranton's loss Tuesday to Buffalo, Rochester moves to within one game of first place in the IL North Division.
