Wings Sweep Double-Header Vs Colts

HARLINGEN, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (12-4) pitchers kept the San Angelo Colts (7-9) batters at bay holding them to only five hits and one run over seven innings in a 2-1 Wings victory. The WhiteWings offense did what they had to with a pair of runs on the bottom of the second inning.

The Wings took both games of the double-header and took the series against the San Angelo Colts by a 3-1 mark.

The Wings manufactured a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Wesley Dimitt (single) and Edgar Trejo (double) both hit their way on base Jonathan Fernandez scored Dimitt with a sacrifice fly. Brandon Decker followed it right up with a single scoring Trejo.

San Angelo added a run of their own in the third inning as Ronnie Gainescame across to score.

The game would remain scoreless as Luis Chirinos went five and a third allowing only one run while striking out seven. In the sixth inning inning Chirinos ran into trouble and Mickey Cassidy came in to get the final two outs without allowing a hit.

Edgar Martinez came in for the seventh and final inning earning his second save of the game. For Martinez it was his eighth of the season.

The WhiteWings and Colts will turn to San Angelo for a four game series starting tomorrow night at Foster Field. The Wings and Saints will play four games with Andy Wells (2-0, 1.47 ERA) for the Wings. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
