Rochester, NY - The Rochester Red Wings edged the Richmond Braves 7-6 Tuesday at Frontier Field. The Wings rallied from a 3-0 first inning deficit and held off a late Braves rally to snap a four game losing streak against Richmond.
The Braves jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a three-run homer by Graham Koonce. The Red Wings picked up a run in the second on an RBI ground ball by Tommy Watkins. Richmond stretched their lead to 5-1 in the fourth on RBI doubles by Corky Miller and Wes Timmons. The Wings pulled to within a run in the sixth on a two-run single by Glenn Williams and an RBI single by Watkins. Rochester grabbed the lead with three more runs in the seventh. Doug Deeds homered to tie the game. Watkins gave the Wings the lead with a two-run single that made the score 7-5. The Braves moved to within a run in the ninth on an RBI triple by Gregor Blanco, but Blanco was stranded at third.
Brian Bass picked up the win. Buddy Hernandez took the loss. Bobby Korecky notched a save. Timmons, Miller, and J.C. Holt had two hits each for the Braves. Watkins knocked in four runs for the Wings.
The two clubs continue their series Wednesday at 7:05. Jonathan Johnson will pitch for the Braves against Kevin Slowey. The Braves return home June 5.
