Louisville Bats News Release
- AGAINST THE KNIGHTS: Last season, Louisville lost the season series 3-9 against Charlotte with the Knights taking four of six played at Knights Stadium. All-time against Charlotte, Louisville owns a 59-50 record, including a 31-24 record in Charlotte.
- IN THE STANDINGS: The Bats have spent the following days alone or tied at each position in the International League West Division standings: FIRST - 10, SECOND - 36, THIRD - 8, FOURTH - 0.
- HE'S A BASEBALL GUY: Manager Rick Sweet enters the 2007 campaign as his 19th season as a minor league manager. Sweet owns a career record of 1,216-1,225 and a 645-602 career Triple-A record. The 2007 season marks his third in the Reds organization. He is now in fifth place on the Louisville career managerial wins list with 168 wins.
- THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT: It was announced over the winter that Louisville will host the 2008 Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. It will be the first time Louisville has hosted the event since 1991. Louisville will become the first International League city to host the event twice.
- ON THE ROAD (12-13): Are hitting .244 (205-841) with 20 HR, 105 runs scored (4.20/g) and a 3.19era.
- LIGHTNING CRASHES: Louisville Slugger Field will host Counting Crows, LIVE & Collective Soul for a concert on Friday, August 3, beginning at 6:30pm. Tickets will be $49.50 for adults. Children under 12 will be admitted free of charge. Tickets go on sale Saturday, June 2 at 11:00am at all Ticketmaster outlets and the Louisville Slugger Field Box Office.
- LAST NIGHT: RHP Homer Bailey set a new season high for a Bats pitcher by striking out nine Knights batters in the 4-1 win. Bailey also equaled a career high of 7.0ip, the fifth time in his career he has gone 7.0ip.
- REHABBER: Reds OF Josh Hamilton joined Louisville today on a Major League rehab assignment. He has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 22 with gastroenteritis (inflammation or infection of the gastrointestinal tract). Hamilton, 26, was the National League Rookie of the Month for April after leading all Major League rookies in HR (6), extra-base hits (10), on-base percentage (.365) and slugging percentage (.609) while tying for the Major League rookie lead in RBI (13). When he went on the disabled list on 5/22, he led all National League rookies in HR (8) and outfield assists (3) and ranked in the Top 3 in almost every other offensive category. Overall, in his first Major League season Hamilton is hitting .261 with 8 HR and 18 RBI in 37 appearances and 29 starts for the Reds.
- SAARLOOS OPTIONED: RHP Kirk Saarloos was yesterday optioned to Louisville. He has been with Cincinnati the entire season. With the Reds, Saarloos is 0-4, 7.04ERA in 22games, 2 starts. He last pitched 5/27 vs Pit, in the shortest start of his career suffered the 14-10 loss (7bf, 5h, 5er, 2bb, 0k, 1HR, 38 pitches). Saarloos is not on the Bats active roster
- SNUBBED AGAIN: IF Joey Votto made a good case for IL Batter of the Week for this past week. Over the past week, Votto hit .500 (10-20) with two home runs and eight RBI. Votto also scored seven runs during the week. No Bats player has won a weekly IL award yet this year. The last Bats player to win an IL weekly award was LHP Mike Gosling, who won the IL Pitcher of the Week from 8/14-8/20 of 2006, the only Bats player to win a weekly award last season.
- ON THE MOUND: RHP Johnny Cueto is making his Triple-A debut tonight. Cueto has spent the entire season at Single-A Sarasota, posting a 2-4 record along with a 3.64era. He has never pitched above Single-A. Cueto was the 2006 Reds minor league Pitcher of the Year after going a combined 15-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 26 starts with Single-A Dayton and Single-A Sarasota.
- A WISE MOVE: OF Dewayne Wise had his contract purchased by Cincinnati today. He takes the roster spot of IF/OF Ryan Freel who was placed on the 15-day disabled list after he suffered a contusion to his head and neck after a collision with RF Norris Hopper. Wise has appeared in 44 games for Louisville this year, holding a .256 average with seven home runs and 19 RBI. He leads the International League with seven triples and is tied for third in the league with 24 extra-base hits.
- ROSTER MOVES: IF Jeff Bannon and LHP Brian Shackelford were both reinstated from the disabled list today. Bannon has been on the DL since 5/12 with a left oblique strain. He is hitting .301-1HR-9RBI in 27 games for the Bats this year. Shackelford has been on the DL since 5/17 with a left hamstring strain. He is 0-3, 7.07 ERA in 16 relief apps with Louisville this year. LHP Mike Bumatay was transferred to Double-A Chattanooga today. Bumatay appeared in three games with Louisville since being promoted on 5/21, posting no record and a 20.25 ERA.
