RICHMOND, VA - The Rochester Red Wings beat the Richmond Braves 3-1 Tuesday at The Diamond. Three Red Wings pitchers scattered seven hits as the Wings took the opener of a four game series. The Braves suffered back to back losses for just the second time this season.
The Braves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning when Jonathan Schuerholz chased Doug Clark home with a single to center. The Red Wings rallied right back to score three runs in the sixth. Former Mills Godwin star Matt Moses lined an RBI double to tie the game at one. Jose Morales knocked in a run with a single to put the Wings in front to stay. Tommy Watkins capped the rally with a sacrifice fly giving Rochester a 3-1 lead.
Kevin Slowey tossed seven innings to earn the win. Bobby Korecky notched a save. Jonathan Johnson took the loss. Martin Prado and Yunel Escobar had two hits each for Richmond.
Richmond will continue its series against Rochester on Wednesday night at 7 PM. The Braves will send RHP Buddy Carlyle (5-1, 2.37 ERA) to face the Red Wings' Jeremy Cummings (3-1, 3.10 ERA).
