Richmond, VA - FasMart Stores, the Richmond Braves, the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Virginia 529 College Savings Plan are pleased to announce the first monthly winner in the FasMart Grand Slam Kid promotion. Each month during the Braves season, FasMart will recognize a student who maintains excellent grades, performs athletically and gives time and energy to their community through volunteer efforts. The winner for April is Melissa Snyder of Midlothian High School.

For the past three years she has served as the Philanthropic Chair of the Latin Club which coordinates crafts, games and activities for the elderly at Morningside, Southerland and the Willows nursing homes. She has organized, helped produce and delivered original coloring books to children at CJW, Children's and St. Francis Hospitals. She has tutored students at Greenfield and Evergreen Elementary Schools in Latin. In 2006, she was awarded the Chesterfield County Superintendent's Ambassador Award for Community Service. She has also found time to volunteer at the Richmond Animal League to feed, water, walk and bathe the animals housed there. She has also been in Girl Scouts for 11 years earning her Silver Award for service activities.

This fall she plans to attend American University's School of International Service and major in International Relations.

As one of the five monthly winners selected in this program, Melissa will be eligible for the $2500 scholarship to be awarded in September as the FasMart Grand Slam Kid of the Year.
