Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons are in Ottawa for the first game of a four-game series against the Lynx at Lynx Stadium (6:05 p.m.). The Herd is coming off back-to-back wins against Rochester to improve their road record to an International League-best 13-5 on the season. On the hill tonight for Buffalo will be RHP Sean Smith, who pitched 5.2 solid innings in a no-decision against Columbus last Thursday. He allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out three. The two runs allowed in the sixth inning snapped a personal 22.2 consecutive scoreless outing streak.
VS. OTTAWA: The Bisons opened up the 2007 season against the Lynx, April 9-12. Buffalo won three of the four games at Dunn Tire Park and now have a 90-57 edge on Ottawa since 1998. That's the most wins the Herd has against any other team since rejoining the International League.
POWER BAT: Ryan Mulhern leads the Bisons in doubles (10-T3rd in the International League), home runs (7 -T4th in the IL), RBI (26, T2nd in the IL), extra-base hits (18, T3rd in IL) and slugging percentage (.596, 3rd in IL). He is also second on the team with a .307 (35-114) batting average.
LIGHT UP THE BOARD: The Bisons are the highest scoring team in the International League with 186 runs scored (5.5 runs per game). Buffalo is one of only two teams who have yet to be shutout this season (Richmond). The team is also third in stolen bases (42) and team batting average (.274). Thanks to last night's four home runs, the team is third in homers (31) as well.
ON AND BEHIND THE PLATE: Catcher Mike Rose has hit .533 (8-15) in his last four games, raising his season average to .266. The backstop has done great work behind the plate as well. With another caught stealing last night, Rose has now thrown out 63% (10-16) of would-be base stealers. That leads all International League catchers.
CAN'T RUN WITH US: The Bisons have excelled at both ends of the running game this year. Offensively, the team is third in the league in stolen bases (42) and first in success rate (76.4%). Ben Francisco (8SB), Brad Snyder (7SB) and Trent Durrington (5SB) have all yet to be caught stealing, and 11 different players have at least one steal. Defensively, the Bisons are first in fewest steals allowed (13) and second in throwing out 50.0% of would-be base stealers.
