Wingnuts Drop Rubber Game in Gary

GARY, IN- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 4-2 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at U.S. Steel Yard on Wednesday afternoon.

Brian Kolb led off the bottom of the second with a single through the left side. Kolb advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored the game's first run on Kyle Haines' line drive single to center.

Mike Coles led off the fourth with a double to left, and scored two batters later on Mike Rohde's sacrifice fly.

Gary SouthShore opened a 4-0 lead with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ryan Babineau derw leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second by Sean Smith. Three batters later, and with runners on first and second and two outs, Mike Massaro pulled a single to right field that scored Babineau. With Coles at the plate, Cooper then stole home during a pickoff attempt at first base.

Wichita got on the board in the top of the sixth. Jake Kahaulelio singled to left with one out and scored from first on John Rodriguez's double to right-center field.

Steve Carrillo tripled to right-center in the eighth and scored on Kevin Whitehead's groundout to short.

Ryan Hinson started and took the loss for the Wingnuts, allowing four earned runs on four hits in six and two-thirds innings. Hinson walked five and struck out six.

RailCats' starter Stephen Hiscock earned the win, allowing one earned run in six innings with no walks and two strikeouts.

Will Krout earned the save for Gary SouthShore in the ninth.

Jeff Nadeau worked one and one-third scoreless innings in relief of Hinson.
