Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, Ind.- Stephen Hiscock threw six innings and allowed just one run to record the RailCats fourth straight quality start as the RailCats took the series rubber match 4-2 against the Wichita Wingnuts on Wednesday afternoon. The RailCats improved to 13-13 on the season and moved to within six games of first-place Wichita.
Kyle Haines hit an RBI single to center in the second inning to score Brian Kolb and put the RailCats on top 1-0. Mike Coles led off the fourth with a double and scored on a sac fly by Mike Rohde to make it 2-0.
The 'Cats used small ball to net a pair of runs in the fifth. Ryan Babineau walked and was sacrificed to second by Sean Smith. David Cooper walked and then with two out, Mike Massaro smacked a single to right to score Babineau. With Coles batting, Hinson made a throw to first to check on Massaro when Cooper dashed home from third for a straight steal of home. With one run in each the sixth and seventh innings, the Wingnuts cut the lead in half to 4-2 but newly-signed David Quinowski pitched a perfect eighth and Will Krout recorded his seventh save in the ninth to seal the victory.
Hiscock (1-1) gave up a run on three hits in six innings, striking out two. It was the RailCats fifth quality start of a seven-game home stand that saw the RailCats go 5-2. The RailCats have an off day on Thursday as they travel to Amarillo, Texas, where they begin a three-game series against the Sox on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Kyle Wilson (1-2, 5.16) will be on the bump for the 'Cats.
