St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (June 12, 2012) - Add extra inning games as another reason the St. Paul Saints are short on arms. Other than signings and injuries the Saints played an 11 inning game on Monday night and with a tired bullpen the Saints signed left-handed pitcher T.J. Wink and right-hander Ben Kincaid.
The 24-year-old Wink pitched last season for the Pittsfield Colonials in the Independent Can-Am League. He went 5-2 with a 2.56 ERA and one save in 22 games (seven starts), including a complete game shutout. In 59.2 innings pitched he walked 28 and struck out 48.
This season he began the year with the New Jersey Jackals and was 0-1 with a 17.18 ERA in six relief appearances. In 7.1 innings he walked seven and struck out five.
The 22-year-old Kincaid just finished his college career at the University of Minnesota-Mankato. He was 6-3 with a 3.06 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) with four complete games and two shutouts. In 70.2 innings pitched he walked 18 and struck out 67 while opponents hit .270 against him. He was also a star offensively hitting .345 with two homers and 32 RBI in 49 games. In 171 at bats he scored 25 runs, had nine doubles, one triple, slugged .444 and had an on base percentage of .414.
In high school he was a three-year letter winner in baseball and hockey at Eau Claire Memorial High School. He was named Conference and District Player of the Year during his senior season in baseball.
In order to make room for both pitchers the Saints released pitcher Josh Cephas who was 1-0 with a 6.28 ERA in six games (one start) and placed infielder Job Townsend on the disabled list.
The Saints roster currently stands at the league maximum 22 players, 11 pitchers and 11 position players.
