Laredo Lemurs News Release
Grand Prairie, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (10-16) jumped out to an early lead, only to watch it evaporate, as the Grand Prairie Airhogs (16-10) rallied for an 7-6 win on Wednesday afternoon at QuikTrip Park.
The Lemurs looked sharp at the beginning of the game posting a run in the second with a Stephen Pearson double to lead it off. Pearson's double was followed by back-to-back strikeouts, but Palmer Karr Jr. would cash in the run to put the Lemurs up 1-0 after one and a half.
The Lemurs would add three more in the third with Kevin Butler reaching on a fielding error by the Airhogs starting pitcher Josh Strawn (3-0). Jimmy Mojica followed the Butler at bat by reaching on a fielder's choice, and again an error on the pitcher, as he threw wildly to second for Butler to get in safely at second. Anthony Scelfo singled to drive in Butler and put the Lemurs up 2-0. Then Javier Brito grounded out to the shortstop bringing Mojica home from third. Stephen Pearson hit with Scelfo at third and with one out he drove the ball to right, Scelfo would tag up and slide in safely at the plate on a close play to put the Lemurs up 4-0.
Lemurs starting pitcher Chris Chavez (2-4) was dealing through the first five innings retiring the side in order three times. Then Chavez toed the rubber in the sixth and the dam broke loose for the Airhogs as they posted six runs, on four hits, and an error that extended the inning, sending 11 batters to the plate.
Chavez took the loss as he pitched five and a third, giving five runs, on three hits, while striking out four.
Airhogs starter Josh Strawn earned the victory throwing seven, giving up four runs, on three Lemurs hits, while striking out seven.
The Lemurs are 2-8 against the Airhogs this season and have lost six straight in Grand Prairie. The Lemurs are currently on a seven game road losing streak that started in the last game against the Lincoln Saltdogs on May 29th .
