American Association Game Recaps

June 13, 2012 - American Association (AA) News Release

Sioux City 5, Sioux Falls 2

Five of the Explorers' nine hits went for extra-bases Wednesday night, and Sioux City beat Sioux Falls, 5-2. Explorers RF Michael Lang went 2-for-3 and hit his third triple of the year, scoring Yusuke Inoguchi from second base in the third inning. Lang scored one batter later on a Kris Sanchez RBI groundout. Pheasants DH Cesar Nicolas singled in two runs in the sixth inning to pull his club within one run. But Sioux City answered in the very next frame, scoring two to bring the game to its final tally.

Pheasants LF Mark Shorey was the only Sioux Falls player with more than one hit, going 2-for-4. Inoguchi led all players in hits, going 3-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBI. Starting Sioux City pitcher Richard Salazar surrendered two runs on eight hits in as many innings, striking out three and giving up one walk to earn his third win of the year.

Amarillo 17, El Paso 8

Trailing, 5-4, entering the eighth inning, the Sox had little time to come back to defeat El Paso. But in those two innings, Amarillo scored 13 runs, eventually defeating the Diablos, 17-8. The Sox put 10 runs on the board in the eighth inning alone. The final three Sox to cross the plate in the eighth were Tim Alberts, Adam Buschini and Mitch Abeita, when Abeita hit his third home run of the year. Abeita went 2-for-6 with two runs and three RBI.

El Paso scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead, and the Diablos held an advantage on the scoreboard until the big Amarillo eighth. The first Amarillo run came via a Jake Opitz sacrifice fly. Opitz went 3-for-5 with two runs and five RBI.
