Windy City Takes Down No. 2-Seeded Rio Grande Valley in Winter Showcase Quarterfinals

The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, beat the No. 2-seeded Rio Grande Valley Vipers 102-96 Monday night at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Chicago Bulls Two-Way forward Malcolm Hill hit the game-winning three-pointer and led the team with 17 points.

The Bulls started off strong with a 14-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

Windy City didn't let off the gas, extending the lead to 30 points by halftime. Chicago Bulls Two-Way guard Carlik Jones, Ethan Thompson and Hill had 10 points apiece in the first half.

Rio Grande guard Louis King caught fire, scoring 14 points in the third quarter to help bring the Vipers within 12 points. Windy City led 77-65 heading into the fourth quarter.

For this year's Winter Showcase, the G League introduced a Final Target Score. The game clock shuts off after the third quarter and 25 points is added to the leading team's score to make the Target Score.

In tonight's Windy City victory, the target score was 102 -- which Windy City reached on Hill's three-pointer.

The Vipers went on a 12-0 run, taking a four-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, however, the Bulls were able to battle back to win by six points.

Windy City's bench outscored Rio Grande's bench 45-19. Thompson finished with 15 points, forward Nick King and guard Javon Freeman-Liberty scored 12 points each.

The Vipers were led by Houston Rockets Two-Way guard Trevor Hudgins, who connected on nine three-pointers, finishing with 27 points. Rio Grande forward Louis King chipped in 21 points.

With the win, Windy City improved to 11-6 on the season, while Rio Grande fell to 12-5.

Next up, the Bulls take on the winner of No. 3-seeded College Park vs. No. 6-seeded Cleveland on Tuesday, December 20. The game is slated to be at 10 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on NBA TV.
