Kingston Frontenacs News Release

The Kingston Frontenacs finished up a three-game in a three-day stretch in Windsor on Sunday afternoon. The team was coming in off a big 6-1 win in Flint on Saturday on the strength of a four-point night from Shane Wright, who also broke Bernie Nicholls record for rookie-goals in a season. After five consecutive losses, the Spitfires got back in the winning column in their last game on Friday with 6-3 win over Guelph Storm.

Kingston came into the game tied with Niagara with 42 points for the final playoff spot in the East Conference. Ryan Dugas would get the start in goal for Kingston and it was Xavier Medina for the Windsor Spitfires. Windsor's Rueben Rafkin and Wyatt Johnson both join Wright, Martin Chromiak, Francesco Arcuri, and Vitali Pinchuk in the top-15 for rookie scoring.

The Spitfires came out flying in the first period as they looked for an early lead. They forced Ryan Dugas into a couple nice saves right off the hop, including a nice sprawling save on the opening shift. Kingston had the first shot on goal but were then held back for almost five minutes of play as Windsor sustained pressure. Wisdom had a good chance but Windsor starter Medina turned away the shot from in close.

Dugas made a couple great saves on Daniel D'Amico and Kyle McDonald during the middle portion of the period but Windsor got on the board first making it 1-0 at 13:57 on a Jean-Luc Foudy marker with Connor Corcoran and Pasquale Zito gaining assists. Shortly after, Kingston was called for a penalty and it was 2-0 when Curtis Douglas beat a partially screened Dugas with a high shot at 15:13.

Kingston would come back strong in the latter portion of the frame with Vitali Pinchuk continuing his strong play scoring his 12th goal at 16:33. After Justin Pringle centred a pass to Pinchuk out front of the Spitfires net, he spun around and fired the puck beating Medina through the five-hole and it was a 2-1 game. Just seven seconds later it was a tie game as Nick Wong scored on a beautiful snapshot over the glove of Medina for an unassisted marker. It was his 14th goal of the season at 16:40.

Windsor would strike again making it 3-2 with just six seconds left in the period. D'Amico was able to tip a pass off the side of the crease to give the Spitfires their second lead of the game heading to intermission. Douglas' assist on the goal was his second point of the period.

Windsor had a good chance with a one-timer at 2:30 of the second looking for an early-period goal, but Dugas made a pad save to keep it a one-goal game. Continued pressure by Windsor kept the Frontenacs from gaining offensive-zone time as Windsor held the majority of play in the opening 10 minutes of the period with 16 shots without Kingston having any on Medina in that time.

It was 4-2 as Windsor continued to play a majority of zone time in Kingston's end when Will Cullye scored at 8:20 on Windsor's 14 consecutive shot-on-goal. With continued pressure, Windsor would score again twice in just over two minutes on goals by Tyler Angle and Wyatt Johnson at 11:07 and 12:12 to open up a four-goal lead at 6-2 just over eight minutes into the middle frame. The goals came on the 15th and 18th shot on Dugas in the period. Christian Propp was called into the game in relief after the sixth goal.

Kingston drew a penalty on the later stages of the period and had some good chances but Medina stoned Chromiak in the slot and made a good glove save off a Wright snapshot from the circle. It was a rough period for the visitors as they were outshot 23-9 setting a new season-high for shots against in a period.

The third started much like the second did as Windsor fire away on Propp who made a couple good saves in the opening minutes. The game was increasingly getting physical and when Evan Brand and Luke Boka got acquainted in the Kingston zone after Brand had made a hit, there was another engagement with Baker in the Spitfire crease at 7:37. After a whistle near the Spitfire goal, the teams would get together with all on the ice except the goaltenders becoming involved. When all said and done there was 27 minutes of penalties on the scrum with three misconducts given as well. Lucas Peric and Pasqual Zito were ejected for starting a second fight on the play.

Jean-Luc Foudy would be awarded a penalty shot at 9:25 while shorthanded lengthening the Spitfire lead to five beating Propp for a 7-2 score. Windsor would score a powerplay goal at 13:08 by Egor Afanasyev and followed that up with two more goals by Will Cuylle and rookie Rueben Rafkin to round out the scoring ending the game 10-2 marking the third time on the season with a double-digit goal total for the high-powered Spitfires.

Kingston plays next on Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m. in North Bay vs the Battalion as they continue the seven-game road stretch.

The next home game for the Frontenacs is on Mar 13 at 7 p.m. vs Hamilton. Tickets are available at the Leon's Centre box-office or Ticketmaster.ca.
