Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Kingston Frontenacs rolled into town for a Sunday afternoon matchup with the Spitfires. This was the 2nd and final matchup of the season with the Spitfires winning the first matchup 6-5 back on December 13th, 2019.
In the first period, the game was very close; each team traded shots. The Spitfires struck first courtesy of Jen-Luc Foudy, who was on a goalless drought. He went speeding across the blue line giving it off to Zito, who passed it back to Foudy, and he walked in and tucked it in around the netminder-making it 1-0 with just over 6 minutes left to play in the first period. Just a minute and sixteen seconds later on the powerplay Douglas sniped his 28th on the season, Corcoran and Angle drew assists on the play. A minute and twenty seconds elapsed before Kingston got their first goal of the game, making it 2-1. Additionally, seven seconds after that, Kingston scored another, making it a 2-2 game. Nevertheless, the Spitfires didn't give up. With just six seconds left in the period, D'Amico got his 23rd on the season on a sweet individual effort from Boka. Douglas got the secondary assist on the goal, which would be the game-winning goal. Shots were 14-11 in favour of Kingston after the first period.
In the second period, the Spitfires didn't look back, adding three goals in the period. Cuylle scored on the powerplay, which was his 20th, while Angle tied the team lead with his 28th, and Johnston got his 12th on his rookie campaign. The score was 6-2 Spitfires after two periods of play.
In the third period, the Spitfires wouldn't stop scoring, adding another four goals in a rough and rowdy final period. Jean-Luc Foudy got his 15th on a penalty shot after he was hooked on the previous play. Afanasyev got his team-leading 29th goal on the powerplay. Cuylle added another which was his 21st on the season, and Rafkin got his 4th to dominate the Frontenacs and take the game by a score of 10-2.
With this win the Spitfires clinched a playoff berth.
The Spitfires' next game is home at the WFCU Centre on Thursday, March 5th when the Owen Sound Attack come to town. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
