Mississippi Braves News Release
Pensacola, FL - Behind four windblown home runs on Friday night at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos picked up a 5-1 win over the Mississippi Braves to even the series at a game apiece.
All four home runs were hit off of Mike Minor in his sixth and final minor league rehab start of the season. He is expected to rejoin the Atlanta Braves rotation following tonight's outing.
Minor (0-2) gave up five runs- all on home runs- on ten hits over seven innings of work, suffering the loss.
The Braves (8-14) jumped out to an early lead when Mycal Jones- just added to the M-Braves roster on Friday afternoon--hit a solo home run to left on a 3-2 pitch off Daniel Corcino to start the game.
But that was the only run the Braves scored.
Pensacola (9-13) got their first home run in the second inning. Travis Mattair led off the inning with a single and catcher Bryan Anderson went the opposite way to left for a two-run home run and a 2-1 lead.
Then in the fifth, Minor worked ahead on third baseman Juan Silverio, but he sent a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall to make it 3-1.
In the sixth, Mattair and Anderson hit back-to-back home runs to pull ahead 5-1. For Anderson, it was his second of the game and his third in two days, all hit the opposite way to left field for the left-handed hitter.
Corcino (2-2) settled in after the Jones home run, allowing just a run on three hits over 6 2/3 innings. Drew Hayes and Shane Dyer came on in relief to shutout in the Braves over the final 2 1/3 innings, with Dyer earning his first save of the year.
After Minor, James Hoyt pitched a scoreless, hitless eighth inning.
The Braves and Wahoos battle in the third game of a five-game series on Saturday night at 6:30 PM CT, with right-hander Jason Hursh (1-2, 2.95) on the hill against right-hander Robert Stephenson (2-1, 4.41) for the Blue Wahoos.
Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 6:00 PM CT on 103.9 WYAB or online at MississippiBraves.com and TuneIn Radio.
