Birmingham Barons News Release
Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons suffered their second shutout defeat of the season, losing 4-0 to the Chattanooga Lookouts Friday in front of 4,826 fans at AT&T Field.
Chattanooga took an early 1-0 lead against Barons starter Chris Beck (2-3,4.94) getting a leadoff triple in the second by Scott Schebler who scored a batter later on a double by Erisbel Arruebarrena as the Lookouts took a 1-0 lead.
Beck would shut the Lookouts down over the next 4.0 innings and allowed just four hits over 6.0 IP on the night before being removed prior to the seventh inning.
The Lookouts tacked on three insurance runs in the eighth, getting a sacrifice fly by Thursday's hero Daniel Mayora and a two-run home run by Scott Schebler against reliever David Cales. The homer was Schebler's fifth of the season and gave Chattanooga a 4-0 lead.
The Barons would load the bases with one out in the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate but consecutive fly outs by Chris Curley and Michael Earley ended the game as the Barons fell to 10-12 on the season.
Lookouts starter Tyson Brummett (2-1, 0.39) allowed just three hits and struck out six over 7.0 scoreless IP, helping Chattanooga improve to 10-12 on the season.
Rangel Ravelo finished with three of the Barons five hits on the night, going 3-for-4 and raising his season average to .308.
The Barons will look to snap a three-game losing skid Saturday as RHP Myles Jaye (2-2, 5.91) takes the hill against RHP Tyson Brummett (1-1, 0.56). First pitch is scheduled for a 6:15 PM CDT.
