
Win Streak Stopped at Three by IceRays

(Corpus Christi, TX) - The Corpus Christi IceRays stopped the Mississippi RiverKings' three-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory at the American Bank Center on Saturday night. The loss evened the RiverKings record on the road trip to 1-1-0, as their regular season record dropped to 8-7-0.
All five goals in the game were scored on the power play.
Corpus Christi open the scoring in the first period on a power play goal from Adam Powell at the 10:54 mark of the first period.
But, the RiverKings came back with a goal from Louis Dumont, also on the power play, with 10 seconds left in the first period, assisted by Jeff Alcombrack and Derek Landmesser. The goal came with the IceRays two men in the penalty box late in the period.
In the second period, Ryan Bennett opened the scoring for Corpus Christi with a power play goal at 1:43, but the RiverKings answered on the power with a tip-in goal from Matt Pierce at 6:18, assisted by Landmesser and Nelson, to tie the contest at 2-2.
Corpus Christi took the lead again in the back-and-forth battle with another power play goal, this time from Powell at 13:10 for a 3-2 IceRays' lead after two periods. It was his second goal of the night and his fifth of the season.
Defense settled in with the third period being scoreless.
Mississippi outshot the IceRays 31-21 for the contest. Tyler Sims made 18 saves in goal for Mississippi, but saw his record drop to 0-2-0 for the season. Kris Tebbs was the winning netminder for the âRays with a 29-save performance.
The RiverKings were 2-for-13 on the power play, while Corpus Christi was 3-for-10 with the man advantage.
Mississippi entered the game riding a three-game winning streak after a 6-4 victory at Tulsa Friday night.
Tuesday night, the RiverKings' road trip continues with a 7:00 PM game at Laredo against the Bucks. Broadcast coverage is on Sports 56, WHBQ-AM, starting at 6:45 PM.
