IceRays top RiverKings

The Corpus Christi IceRays had only one game this week, but made the most of it, holding off the Mississippi RiverKings for a 3-2 win at the American Bank Center on Saturday Night. Adam Powell had his second straight two-goal game to lead the IceRays to a win in their only game of the week, and earned points for the fifth time in the last six games. Corpus Christi improved their season record to 5-6-1. Mississippi fell to 8-7 snapping their three-game winning streak. The IceRays are home on Wednesday Night to host the Odessa Jackalopes for another installment of the Fine Jewelry Outlet Great Diamond Giveaway. The IceRays took the first lead of the game when Adam Powell scored his third goal in the last two games. Powell redirected a shot from the left point at 10:54 to make it 1-0 IceRays. The lead held through most of the period until Louis Dumont scored a power play goal for the RiverKings when he converted a rebound from just outside the crease to tie the score while on a two-man advantage. The Kings outshot the Rays 10-7 in the period.

The IceRays recaptured their lead at 2-1 when Ryan Bennett got a power play goal after his centering pass redirected off a RiverKings stick and into the net at 1:43. The Kings again tied it up, and again it came on a two-man advantage. At 6:18 Matt Pierce redirected a shot past Kris Tebbs at 6:18 to tie the game 2-2. The IceRays used a third power play goal to claim their third lead of the hockey game. On a scramble in front, Powell batted a puck through traffic and past Tyler Sims at 13:10. The Kings outshot the Rays 15-9 in the period, but the Rays held a lead moving into the third period.

In the third period the IceRays killed off four power plays and closed the door to hang on and win their second straight game by the final of 3-2.

Tebbs (4-3-1) earned the win making 29 saves on 31 shots while Sims (0-2) took the loss with 18 saves on 21 shots. The IceRays power play went 3-9 while the RiverKings went 2-12 on the man advantage. The IceRays were outshot by the Kings 31-21.

The IceRays remain at the American Bank Center to continue their six-game home stand, continuing on Wednesday Night when the IceRays host the Odessa Jackalopes at 7:05pm.
