Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Saltdogs came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the RailCats 3-2 on Sunday night and end the RailCats season-high win streak at six. The RailCats fell to 39-42 and are seven and a half games back of first place Wichita in the Central.
Craig Maddox hit a leadoff homer for the RailCats in the second inning, his third of the season. It ended a 10-game homerless drought for the RailCats, as Maddox was the last to homer with a grand slam on August 1. Brian Kolb and Zac Mitchell singled in the inning to put runners on the corners before David Cooper hit a fielder's choice, with Mitchell beating the throw at second and Kolb scoring to make it 2-0.
RailCats starter Morgan Coombs held the Saltdogs scoreless until the fifth, when Chris McMurray hit a two-run shot to left, his 13th of the season, to tie the game at two.
Coombs held the Saltdogs to two runs on three hits in 6 1/3 in his fifth quality start of the season. He walked six and struck out five. Saltdogs starter Wade Mackey limited the 'Cats to two runs on four hits in six frames. Neither starter factored in the decision.
The Saltdogs took the lead in the eighth inning against RailCats reliever Marshall Schuler (1-2). Mike Provencher and Matt Forgatch hit back-to-back singles to start the inning, and A.J. Miller hit a sac fly to center to score Provencher and give the 'Dogs a 3-2 lead. P.J. Zocchi pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up his 20th save. Pete Parise (5-5) pitched one-third of an inning for the win.
The RailCats took two of three in the series and now travel to St. Paul to start a three-game series against the Saints on Monday at 7:05. Will Krout (3-4, 3.77) will take the ball for the 'Cats.
