Saints Drop Series Finale to Amarillo 5-4

ST. PAUL, MN (August 12, 2012) - The number in the games back column is increasing while the number in the games remaining column decreases. It's not a good combination for the St. Paul Saints who lost 5-4 to the Amarillo Sox on Sunday afternoon at Midway Stadium in front of 5,110, falling 5.5 games behind the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the wild card with 20 games remaining.

After coming from behind on Saturday night and winning in walk off fashion the Saints squandered three different leads on Sunday. They led 1-0, 2-1 and 4-2, but the Sox scored three runs in the sixth to take the lead for good. Adam Buschini led off with a single and Tim Alberts walked. The two moved up on a ground out and Chuck Lofgren loaded the bases with a walk. Tyler Goodro came through with a two-run single to tie the game at four and chase Saints starter Luke Anderson. Billy Spottiswood came out of the bullpen and gave up an RBI double to Harrison Kain giving the Sox their first lead of the game.

After giving up the lead the Saints managed just two hits in their remaining four innings. In the sixth Miles Durham walked with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. Ronnie Bourquin, however, struck out and Jake Krause lined out to end the inning. In the seventh Joe Spiers doubled with two outs, moved to third on a wild pitch, but was left stranded after Willie Cabrera struck out to end the inning. In the eighth Durham walked with two outs and advanced to second on a single by Ronnie Bourquin. Pinch hitter Jim Rapoport, however, flew out to end the inning.

With the game tied at one in the bottom of the fourth the Saints took a 2-1 lead when Ole Sheldon doubled and scored on a two-out single by Durham.

The Sox tied it at two in the fifth when Goodro singled, moved to second on a ground out and scored on a two-out single from Danny Gallinot, his first professional hit.

The Saints, however, answered with two in the bottom of the inning. Krause led off with an infield single to third and was sacrificed to second by Alex Garabedian. Adam Frost doubled him home to give the Saints a 3-2 lead. Frost stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Spiers to make it 4-2.

The Saints welcome in the Gary SouthShore Railcats on Monday night at Midway Stadium in the first game of a three game series. The Saints send RHP Kyle Ruwe (1-1, 3.21) to the mound against Railcats RHP Will Krout (3-4, 3.77). It is Not Hipster Night. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
