Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
Williamsport, Pa - The Crosscutters had their six-game win streak come to a close on Wednesday night dropping both ends of a doubleheader to the Batavia Muckdogs by identical 6-3 scores.
Kendall Simmons rocked his eighth home run in the first game which is second most in the league. Herbert Iser also crushed his second of the year. But Batavia posted six runs in the first inning to take early control of the game and held on from there. LHP Spencer Van Scoyoc (3-2) didn't make it out of the first inning giving up a couple of bad-contact hits while also dealing a couple walks and a hit batter.
It is the most runs allowed by Williamsport in a single inning this season. The Crosscutters out-hit Batavia in the first game 11-7.
Game 2 saw the Cutters claw their way back from a 2-0 deficit to forge a 2-2 tie in the sixth on a triple by Simmons and a sacrifice fly by Logan O'Hoppe. But the Muckdogs pushed across four runs in the top of the seventh against reliever Alejandro Made to break the tie. Jake Holmes went 2-for-3 in the second game with a double and RBI.
Williamsport plays a doubleheader at West Virginia on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. RHP Adam Leverett and LHP Chris Micheles are the probable starters.
