Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - The Curve saw their seven-game winning streak stopped in a rough way at home, dropping both ends of a Wednesday doubleheader to the Harrisburg Senators by finals of 5-3 and 3-2 at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Altoona struggled to get hits in key spots, going a combined 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position between the two.

Wednesday's opener saw Altoona taking on the Eastern League's best in 2012 with Harrisburg's Daniel Rosenbaum on the hill. The circuit's ERA leader wasn't his usual dominant self, walking three, half of his season total entering Wednesday, and allowing three runs on seven hits, but he kept Altoona at bay when it mattered most. After the Senators took a 1-0 lead in the second, the Curve tied it in the bottom half of the third and appeared poised for more. With a run already in on a bases-loaded walk, Rosenbaum's second free pass of the inning, the Curve had the bags packed and just one out. Rosenbaum (6-0), however, induced a 1-2-3 double-play ball from Ramon Cabrera to end the threat, and the Curve didn't challenge the lefty the rest of the way.

Harrisburg pulled away in the opener with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth against the Curve's Phil Irwin (0-2). Though Altoona countered with two in the bottom of the sixth and got the tying runs on base in the seventh, Christian Garcia (S, 6) struck out Matt Curry with two aboard to end it.

Altoona grabbed the upper hand first in Wednesday's second half with a two-run bottom of the third. Quincy Latimore led off the inning with his third homer of the season and second of the homestand, and Brock Holt added and RBI single later to give the Curve and Brandon Cumpton a 2-0 lead. Latimore went a combined 4-for-6 between the two games with two doubles and his home run.

Harrisburg struck back immediately, though, getting three runs against Cumpton (5-4) in the fourth, with the latter, game-winning tally coming home on a balk by the right-hander. Senators spot starter Ryan Tatusko and relievers Patrick McCoy (2-0), Marcos Frias, and Erik Davis patched together seven innings for the victory.

Thursday, the Curve will try to earn a series split and a 5-2 record on their seven-game homestand with the series finale of four with the Senators on a second straight Education Day. The finale is a Thirsty Thursday presented by Rocky 104.9 with specially priced 16-ounce drafts and half-price sodas. First pitch is set for 10:30, and airtime for Thursday morning at Peoples Natural Gas Field is slated for 10:00 a.m. on ESPN 1430 and the Curve Radio Network.
