Rock Cats Get Another Home Run Hitter

New Britain Rock Cats News Release


New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, has received OF Rene Tosoni from Triple-A Rochester of the International League. Tosoni played 60 games with the Minnesota Twins last season after spending time in New Britain in 2009 and 2010. He is currently on the Twins' 40 man Major League Roster.

Tosoni, 25, opened this season at Triple-A Rochester and batted .167 (11-66) with 5 doubles and 5 RBI in 21 games with the Red Wings in 2012. He had a 5-hit and two RBI game on Monday vs Gwinett. He last played in New Britain in 2010 and batted .270 with 4 home runs and 24 RBI with the Rock Cats. The Canadian outfielder help lead the Rock Cats to the Eastern League Playoffs in 2009 with 15 homers and 71 RBI that season.

Tosoni, was called up to the Major Leagues on April 28, 2011 when Delmon Young was placed on the disabled list. He went 2-4 with an RBI in his first game that day vs Tampa Bay. He recorded his first Major League hit, a single off Jeremy Hellickson in his first at-bat. His first career RBI came on a single in his third at-bat against Hellickson. Tosoni, hit his first Major League home run, a solo shot off Rick Porcello, May 10 @ Detroit. He played 13 games with Twins before being optioned back to Rochester, May 12. He returned to Minnesota later during the 2011 season.

He will be available to play the Rock Cats 10:35 AM game tomorrow morning against the Binghamton Mets at New Britain Stadium.
