Rock Cats Fall to Mets

New Britain, CT- The Rock Cats lost to the Binghamton Mets 8-1 Wednesday afternoon in front of a capacity crowd of 7,175 at New Britain Stadium. The game was tied 1-1 after seven innings until New Britain relievers allowed a pair of runs in the 8th and then five runs in the 9th, while the B-Mets beat the Rock Cats for the first time in five games this season. Mets starter, Zack Wheeler was terrific in 8 innings surrendering just one run on two hits with a two walks and seven strikeouts, earning his fourth straight win. David Bromberg was impressive for New Britain allowing just one run on three hits in six innings in a no-decision.

The Mets scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch from David Bromberg in the second inning. The right-hander would go on to retire the next 11 batters after loading the bases in the first two frames. New Britain, held hitless over the first four innings tied the game on a two-out single by DH Nate Hanson. Wheeler retired the side in order in four of his 8 innings of work and threw 96 pitches in his 4th win. The Mets broke the 1-1 tie in the 8th on a fielders choice grounder by Juan Lagares, scoring Raul Reyes on a close play at home plate. Binghamton got its second run of the 8th inning on a throwing error by Danny Lehmann. The B-Mets scored five times off Brett Jacobson in the 9th, highlighted by a 3-run home run by Raul Reyes. Blake Martin was tagged with loss in an inning of work.

The Rock Cats will try to take three of four from the Mets as the two clubs wrap up the series Thursday morning at 10:35. B.J. Hermsen pitches for the Rock Cats while Henry Mejia starts for the Mets.
