Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Wilmington, DE - Entering Friday night the Wilmington Blue Rocks had issued the second-fewest walks in all of baseball, but a lead-off free pass in the seventh inning seemed to deflate the Blue Crew. J.P. Ramirez worked the walk and came home to score one out later on Jose Lozada's RBI double. The run broke up a 1-1 tie and put the Potomac Nationals ahead to stay in their 5-1 victory at Frawley Stadium.

Wilmington reliever Brendan Lafferty, who had worked a perfect sixth inning after entering in place of starter Noel Arguelles, issued the walk to open the seventh. After a pop out to first for the first out, Lozada laced a run-scoring liner into the right-field corner. Cutter Dykstra followed with an RBI single to left to provide Potomac with some insurance. The P-Nats added two more unearned tallies in the ninth off Rocks' reliever Glenn Gibson.

Meanwhile, the Wilmington offense could manage nothing off Potomac starter Cameron Selik. The right-hander tossed the first complete game of his career, holding the Blue Crew to just one unearned score in the third. Selik (1-4) did not walk a single batter and fanned four while scattering seven hits. Six of the Wilmington knocks were singles, and the Potomac pitcher stranded seven as the Rocks went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Wilmington's best chance to get back the runs Lafferty (1-2) had allowed came in the home-seventh. Jose Bonilla ripped a one-out double to the left-center gap. But it only took two pitches for Selik to escape the jam, as he got Alex McClure to pop out to second and Deivy Batista to ground softly to short.

Potomac had just one fewer extra-base hit as the Blue Crew had total knocks. Destin Hood finished the night a homer shy of the cycle and drove in a run, while Cutter Dykstra went 3-for-4 and added a pair of RBIs.

Arguelles allowed one run in his five innings on the hill for Wilmington. The southpaw, who was pitching without the comfort of piggyback partner Michael Mariot for the first time all season, failed to reach the sixth inning for just the second time in his last seven starts.

The teams meet again on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. as Wilmington right-hander Elisaul Pimentel (3-3, 5.36) faces Potomac southpaw Danny Rosenbaum (2-2, 2.98). Broadcast coverage begins at 5:35 p.m. when studio host Adam Dobrowolski brings fans the Rocks Report Pre-game Show, presented by Wawa, on 89.7 WGLS-FM and online at wgls.rowan.edu.
