Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JUNE 3, 2011) - The Winston-Salem Dash announced today that catcher Mike Blanke was promoted to Winston-Salem from low-A Kannapolis. There is no corresponding roster move at this time.
Blanke hit .259 with two home runs and 18 RBI in 47 games this season with the Intimidators. He had been hitting over .300 before a recent dry spell. He ranked in the top half of the South Atlantic League in caught stealing efficiency, retiring 23 of 71 (32.4%) of would-be base stealers.
This season marks his first in full-season professional baseball. He played with Rookie Great Falls in 2010 where he hit .329 with seven home runs and 43 RBI and threw out a league-best 35% of base stealers.
Blanke is ranked as Baseball America's 14th-best prospect in the White Sox organization. He was drafted in the 14th round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Tampa where he hit .377 with nine home runs and 65 RBI as a senior. Blanke was one of three Tampa Spartans to be selected by the White Sox in the 2010 Draft. The other two, Mike Schwartz (17th round) and Austin Evans (23rd round), have not suited up this year after playing for Rookie Bristol last season.
Blanke was born in Canada, but grew up in Florida and went to Seton Hall University as a freshman in 2008. He then transferred to St. Petersburg (FL) Junior College in 2009 before ending up at Tampa for his junior season.
The Dash roster has reached the Carolina League limit of 25 players.
The Winston-Salem Dash are the Class-A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. To purchase tickets and for more information, please call 336-714-2287 or visit www.wsdash.com .
