Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys jumped on RHP Anthony Ranaudo early on Friday night and RHP Ryohei Tanaka did the rest. In his third start of the season, Tanaka allowed one unearned run on five hits over six innings as he improved to 3-0 in Frederick. In his Carolina League debut, Ranaudo surrendered four runs on eight hits over six innings and picked up the loss. The Keys have now eight of their last nine games including five straight over Salem. In addition, Frederick upped their lead in the Northern Division to two and a half games following Wilmington's loss to Potomac on Friday.

Following a scoreless first tossed by Tanaka, CF Steve Bumbry welcomed Ranaudo to the Carolina League with a double to right field. Bumbry advanced to third on sac bunt by 2B Bobby Stevens and came home score when 1B Tyler Townsend reached on an error by 3B Kolbrin Vitek. Townsend was credited with a RBI since Vitek was playing back in the infield.

Frederick gave Tanaka more run support in the second inning. C Brian Ward led off the inning with a single into left field. Ward moved to second on an infield single by SS Garabez Rosa and was driven home by Steve Bumbry. Bumbry's RBI single advanced Rosa to third. Bobby Stevens followed Bumbry with a RBI ground out and the Keys led 3-0 after two innings.

The lone run Tanaka gave up on Friday night was in the third inning and it was unearned. Tanaka went season-high six innings on the night allowing one unearned run on five hits. He walked none and struck out four en route to his third victory of the season. After eight outings in Frederick, Tanaka's ERA sits at 1.09.

1B Tyler Townsend blasted a solo shot to centerfield off Ranaudo in the fifth inning to put Frederick back on top by three. Townsend's ninth home run of the year was the final blemish on Ranaudo's line. In his Salem Red Sox debut, the 39th overall pick in 2010 allowed four runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out five.

Salem cut their deficit to two in the eighth inning but the Red Sox left the bases loaded in the inning. RHP Clay Schrader got LF David Mailman to groundout to first to end the potential threat.

Schrader slammed the door shut in the ninth as he struck out the side in order. Schrader picked up his first save in the Keys 4-2 victory.

The Keys and Red Sox take the diamond on Saturday for game two of the three-game series. RHP Oliver Drake (3-2, 3.38) is scheduled to take the hill for Frederick while Salem will turn to LHP Chris Hernandez (5-2, 2.20).

First pitch on Saturday night is set for 6:00 p.m. Fireworks will follow the contest. For tickets, call 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online www.frederickkeys.com.
