JERSEY SHORE NJ - Scoreless into the ninth, Wilmington scored twice in the ninth and topped the BlueClaws 2-1 on Sunday at ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakewood. Luis Garcia's home run in the bottom of the ninth was the lone hit in the game for Jersey Shore.
The Blue Rocks (23-25/58-55) split the six game series with the BlueClaws (19-29/44-70), outscoring Jersey Shore 13-11 over the six games.
Wilmington took the lead in the ninth inning on a bunt single by Viandel Pena off Jason Ruffcorn (0-4). Cole Daily followed with an RBI single to give the Blue Rocks a 2-0 lead.
The BlueClaws did not get a hit until the ninth, when Garcia homered off Jose Ferrer for their only run of the game. Ferrer earned his eight save while Gerardo Carillo, who got five outs, earned his first win of the season.
BlueClaws starter Dominic Pipkin threw five scoreless innings for the second straight start. He got out of a bases loaded/none out jam in the fifth with a fly out to left and inducing a double play ground ball.
Wilmington starter Andrew Alvarez threw three perfect innings. The first BlueClaws base runner came in the fourth when Luis Garcia was hit by a pitch. He was subsequently erased on a double play groundout.
Jersey Shore loaded the bases without a hit in the seventh inning, but Casey Martin's long fly ball ended up in Ricardo Mendez's glove right in front of the left field wall to end the inning.
After Pipkin's five scoreless innings, Albertus Barber threw a scoreless inning, and Erubiel Armenta got the next five out for Jersey Shore.
The BlueClaws are back in action on Tuesday, hosting Brooklyn at 7:05 pm.
