Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

Williamsport defeated the Auburn Doubledays on Saturday night by a score of 3-1, in front of 2009 fans at Historic Bowman Field.

The Cutters took the lead in the bottom of the third inning and never looked back in winning their second straight game.

CF Jiwan James led off the 2nd with a single and advanced to second on a stolen base. LF Zach Collier hit a RBI double to score James with the first run of the game and after advancing to third on a passed ball, scored on 1B Darin Ruf's RBI single to give the Crosscutters a 2-0 lead.

Williamsport's starting pitcher Siulman LeBron (5-6, 4.48) made his last start of the 2009 season and picked up the victory, allowing no runs and just two hits in five innings while striking out seven Doubledays.

In the top of the 7th Auburn tried to scrap their way back into the game, scoring a run without a base hit. LF Chris Hopkins led off the inning with a walk, stole his way to third and eventually scored on 3B Bradley Glen's RBI sacrifice fly.

Williamsport answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the 7th to extend their lead to 3-1. SS Jonathan Villar singled to center to lead off the inning and advanced to second when James reached first on an error. Both runners moved up to 2nd and 3rd respectively on a passed ball and 2B Alan Schoenberger plated Villar with a RBI single.

Cutters RHP Justin Long (1-3, 5.34) closed out the game with a 1-2-3 ninth for his team leading 10th save of the season.

The Crosscutters wrap up the 2009 campaign with a 1:05pm start Sunday against Auburn. The game can be heard on ESPN 1050AM, 104.1FM or online at crosscutters.com.
