STATEN ISLAND, NY --- Staten Island got a three-run homer and two three-doubles in a 10-run second inning as the Yankees clinched the New York-Penn League's McNamara Division with an 11-2 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters on Saturday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

The Yankees scored the 10 runs in the second on just five hits with five walks and a Sean Nicol fielding error that led to seven of the runs being unearned. The inning began with a single and walk before a Kelvin Castro three-run homer off Vermont starter Jack McGeary for a 3-0 lead.

McGeary then allowed another walk and single before Nicol's fielding error loaded the bases. After a bases loaded walk to Justin Milo, Murton emptied the bases with a three-run double for a 7-0 Yankee lead. Chad Jenkins came on in relief of McGeary and promptly walked the first two batters he faced to reload the bases before a Castro three-run double capped off the 10-run inning.

Vermont got its only two runs of the game on a Ricky Nolan sacrifice fly in the seventh and a Destin Hood sac fly in the eighth. The Lake Monsters outhit the Yankees 9-6 for the game as Staten Island had just one hit besides the five-hit second inning and none over the final four innings.

Lake Monster J.J. Sferra had a three-game for the second straight night and is 11-for-22 (.500) over the last six games to raise his average from .187 to .231, while Nicol was 3-for-4 with one run. McGeary (2-6) allowed eight runs (three earned) on four hits with three walks over 1 2/3 innings for the loss.

Castro was 2-for-3 with two runs and six RBI with the three-run double and three-run homer in the second inning. Starter Kelvin Perez (3-2) gave up five hits with one walk and six strikeouts over five scoreless innings tp earn the win for Staten Island (47-28).

Vermont (33-41) will wrap up the 2009 season on Sunday at Staten Island beginning at 4:00 pm as Kyle Morrison, who pitched at nearby Wagner College, is scheduled to start for the Lake Monsters.
