'Birds Drop Second Straight To Tri-City

(ABERDEEN, MD) - The 'Birds battled back after being down early but fell late, dropping their second straight to the Tri-City Valley Cats 4-3.

The IronBirds (29-43) hosted the Tri-City Valley Cats (26-47) tonight for the second game of their final series of the season.

Justin Anderson made his IronBirds debut tonight after being called up from Bluefield, where he was 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA over fourteen games including three starts. Anderson went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, while striking out two and walking one. Anderson did not receive a decision in the contest.

After last night's 10-inning affair; things started off quietly in tonight's game with the first two innings going by scoreless but Tri-City would break the tie.

The Valley Cats took the lead in the third inning off an Erik Castro single that brought Barry Butera in to score. Tri-City then scored Castro on single by Jacob Goebbert to put the Valley Cats up 2-0.

In the bottom of the third the 'Birds struck back and knotted up the game at two a piece. Justin Dalles hit a double to tie the game by scoring Mike Gioioso and Ty Kelly. T.J. Baxter gave the 'Birds a 3-2 lead by hitting single that scored Tom Edwards who reached base on a single of his own.

In the top of the fifth, J.D. Martinez scored on a wild pitch by Anderson, tying the game at 3-3.

In the top of the ninth, Castro hit a ground rule double that scored Jose Altuve giving the Valley Cats a 4-3 lead.

The IronBirds will wrap up their season tomorrow afternoon in the series finale; the game is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. on Fan Appreciation Day at Ripken Stadium.
