Williamson Hits Two Home Runs in Rox 9-2 Victory

Alexandria, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox and the Alexandria Blue Anchors took their series to Alexandria Sunday night as they took down the Blue Anchors 9-2.
The Rox took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first off a double by Chris Paul on two outs as Clay Williamson and Adam Martin were on first and second after they both hit singles.
In the top of the fifth St. Cloud continued extending their lead as Williamson hit a solo home run and was followed with another solo home run by Luke Weber for a 3-0 lead. Paul singled and was then followed by Vincent Jackson blasting a two-run bomb taking the Rox to a 5-0 lead over Alexandria.
St. Cloud continued holding off the Blue Anchors and extended their lead in the sixth as Tim Colwell got the bats going with a single and scored off a double by Williamson for a 6-0 lead. Martin would single allowing Williamson to score to take a 7-0 lead into the bottom half of the inning.
Alexandria put up two run in the bottom of the seventh off a home run and a two-out single making it a 7-2 game.
Williamson took the Rox to a 8-2 lead in the top of the eighth with two outs as he hit his second solo home run of the night. St. Cloud extended their lead 9-2 off a double by Alex McRae in the top of the ninth.
The Rox sealed a 9-2 victory in the bottom of the ninth as Adam Maxon faced four batters allowing only one hit.
Jason Hoppe started on the mound for the Rox pitching seven innings and recorded the win taking his record to 3-3 on the season. Also seeing action was Jason Condit and Adam Maxon for one inning each.
The St. Cloud Rox (26-27, 12-6 Second Half) will take a couple days off as three players attend the Northwoods League All-Star game in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on Tuesday, July 23.
