Wiley Provides Walk-Off Power for Hillcats

Lynchburg, VA- After not getting a walk-off win in their first 41 games of the season, the Hillcats have now won their last two games in their last at-bat. Keenan Wiley hit a bases loaded triple in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Lynchburg a 4-3 win over Winston-Salem Tuesday night.

The Dash took the lead in the first inning. Tyler Saladino led off the game with a double to left-center. Jose Martinez singled to center, and when center fielder Todd Cunningham tried to pick the ball up, he bobbled it, allowing Saladino to score.

The Hillcats came back and tied the game up at one in the third. Phil Gosselin walked with one out in the inning and the next batter, Adam Milligan, doubled him home.

Winston-Salem retook the lead in the sixth. They scored two runs on two hits and two walks, with both runs coming with two outs, making the score 3-1.

The score remained that way until the bottom of the ninth. Joey Terdoslavich led off the inning with a double. Joe Leonard followed by walking, and was pinch-run for by Kyle Davis. Barrett Kleinknecht then bunted both runners over. The next batter, Shawn McGill, walked to load the bases. Taylor Thompson came into the game for the Dash.

The first batter Thompson faced, Keenan Wiley laced a line drive to deep center field that bounced off the top of the outstretched glove of Jared Mitchell. As the ball rolled away towards the center field wall, all three runners scored to give the Hillcats their second walk-off win in as many nights, 4-3.

Jeremy Haynes pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings to pick up his first win as a Hillcat, and move to 1-0. Ryan Kussmaul, who allowed the three runners to reach base that scored in the ninth, took the loss to fall to 3-1.

The Hillcats won their third straight game by one run, and is now 17-26. The Dash fell to 19-26. It was the first win for Lynchburg this season when trailing going into the ninth inning.

The series finale will take place Wednesday night. Righty Willie Kempf (2-2) will take the mound for the Hillcats, and Winston-Salem will counter with righty Cameron Bayne (3-3). First pitch is at 6:05 pm, and the gates will open at 5:00.
