
Rocks Take Care of Keys, 3-1

An evening after the Keys ended the Blue Rocks seven-game winning streak, Wilmington upended Frederick, 3-1, at Frawley Stadium. The Keys committed four errors on the night and their bats stayed quite as RHP Bryan Paukovits tossed 3.1 perfect innings of relief to close out the game. RF Jacob Julius drove in the lone Keys run on the night. With the loss, Frederick fell to 24-20 on the season, three games behind Wilmington in the Northern Division.
Facing RHP Tim Melville, Frederick left men in scoring position in the first two innings. 1B Tyler Townsend doubled in the first but was stranded on second and CF Miguel Abreu doubled in the second inning but was left at third.
The Blue Rocks scored a run off RHP Ryan O'Shea in the bottom of first. LF Whit Merrifield led off the game with walk. After he stole second base, DH Carlo Testa put down a bunt single that advanced Merrifield to third. 2B Rey Navarro followed up with a RBI single to left to give Wilmington the early advantage.
Frederick tied up the game in the top of the fourth. With two outs in the inning, CF Miguel Abreu singled to centerfield. Following a Melville wild pitch moved Abreu to second, Jacob Julius doubled down the left field line. The Julius RBI double tied the game at one.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Blue Rocks regained their one-run lead after multiple fielding miscues by the Keys. 1B Steven Caseres reached after a fielding error by SS Garabez Rosa and the next man at the plate, RF Yam Prades, got on following the error by RF Jacob Julius. Later in the inning, SS Alex McClure singled home Caseres to give Wilmington a 2-1 lead. The run in the inning was unearned.
Wilmington added a run in the fifth and then followed Bryan Paukovits to the finish line. Paukovits entered for Tim Melville in the bottom of the sixth and did not surrender a run or a hit on the night.
O'Shea tied a season-high on the evening with seven innings pitched but fell to 3-3 on the season. Melville improved to 5-4 and Paukovits notched his first save of the season.
The Keys and Blue Rocks will play the rubbermatch of the three-game series on Wednesday morning. RHP Oliver Drake (2-2, 2.60) will start for Frederick while RHP Tyler Sample (2-3, 2.45) gets the nod for Wilmington. First pitch from Frawley Stadium in set for 11:05 a.m.
