Potomac Nationals News Release
(WOODBRIDGE, VA) The defense betrayed Potomac again Tuesday night in Woodbridge, as three more errors led to three unearned runs and proved too much to overcome in a 4-3 loss to the Kinston Indians. Potomac has now made multiple errors in six straight games and has dropped three straight ballgames to fall to 18-26, nine back of the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
The P-Nats jumped on the board first with Steven Souza's leadoff home run in the second inning, but the lead was short-lived. Kinston tied it in the top of the third thanks to the Nats' first error of the game. With two outs Tyler Holt and Casey Frawley roped consecutive singles. Bo Greenwell then hit a grounder to short that was misplayed by Jose Lozada that tied the game.
It stayed tied for the next three innings as Danny Rosenbaum and Clayton Cook settled in. Rosenbaum faced just one more than the minimum from the fourth to the sixth innings, while Cook allowed three baserunners in both the fourth and fifth innings but worked out of trouble.
In the seventh, the Nats' defense unraveled. A leadoff double by Adam Abraham was compounded when Danny Rosenbaum committed a throwing error on Justin Toole's sacrifice bunt attempt. Roberto Perez then blooped a single to right to break the tie and move Toole to third. Rosenbaum then threw to first on a pickoff attempt, but the ball was dropped by Souza and allowed Toole to score. Delvi Cid then sacrificed Perez to third; he scored on Tyler Holt's ground out to third and it was 4-1 K-Tribe.
Potmac battled back with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but Tyler Sturdevant struck out the side in the ninth to secure his first save and lock up the series win for the Indians.
Potomac looks to salvage the series finale tomorrow night with Mitchell Clegg on the mound against Giovanni Soto at 7:05 P.M.
