January 9th Time Change
JUST A REMINDER THIS SUNDAY'S JANUARY 9TH HOME GAME AGAINST THE RIMOUSKI OCEANIC IS A 7PM START NOT THE TYPICAL SUNDAY 4PM START WE ARE ALL USED TO.
Last Week Recap
The Wildcats dropped 3 of 4 games last week. They started the week off with a home tilt last Thursday against the PEI Rocket and with the score tied at 1 in the 3rd period the Rocket exploded for 3 goals to take the game 4-1. Thomas Flynn scored his 2nd goal of the season in the loss for the Wildcats. The following night the Cats traveled to Saint John to take on the number one ranked team in the country. Despite a solid effort the Cats came out on the short end of a 4-0 decision. Moncton's goalie Shane Owen made 43 saves in the loss. In Sunday's rematch at the Coliseum the Cats battled back from a 2-0 deficit but couldn't pull out the win. Stephen MacAulay was the hero scoring the overtime winner for the Sea Dogs. Scott Trask and Cole MacMillan scored for the Cats who got a 36 save performance from their goalie Steve Gleeson. Tuesday night the Cats were in Cape Breton looking to snap a 5 game losing streak. Alex Saulnier scored his 15th,16th and 17th goals of the season and Shane Owen stopped 42 shots to power the Cats to a 3-2 victory over the Screaming Eagles
Wildcats' Week Ahead
After a couple of weeks without many of their regulars in the lineup the Moncton Wildcats should bolster an almost full lineup this week, with many of their starters coming back from injury and international duty. The Wildcats are in Halifax tonight to face off against the Halifax Mooseheads. Halifax sits 15th in the league with 14-24-1-1 record, the Wildcats have won both games as the visitor in Halifax, while the Mooseheads have returned the favor winning both games at the Coliseum. Sunday the Cats welcome the Rimouski Oceanic to town for their only visit this season. The Oceanic are 11th in the league with a 21-19-1-1 record and lost a 5-3 decision in the only meeting between the two teams way back in September.
Reading Is Wild
The Moncton Wildcats are pleased to announce that this years Reading is Wild program presented by RBC Financial group and the Times and Transcript will touch a total of 1,603 students in five different schools. The five schools involved in this year's program are Birchmount, Lou MacNarin, Havelock Elementary, Lower Coverdale and Salem Elementary. The program will be kicked off the week of January 17th when the Moncton Wildcats organization and players plan to visit each of the five schools. The program will run for five weeks and conclude on February 20th when all the participating kids and their families are invited to attend the Wildcats home game versus Val D'or. Boston Pizza and Scholastic Book Fairs are also partners for this years program.
Wildcat Players on International Duty
The Moncton Wildcats would like to congratulate three of their players who attended international tournaments over the Holiday period. Wildcat forward Marek Hrivik was apart of Team Slovakia won finished 7th at this years U20 World Junior Championships. Hrivik's highlight of the tournament was scoring the overtime winner in a 2-1 victory over Team Germany. Also on international duty were Wildcat rookies Ryan Penny and Brett Malone who both represented Team Atlantic at the U17 World Championships held in Winnipeg Manitoba. Penny and Malone helped the Atlantic team to a 5th place finish, the region's best finish at the tournament since 2005.
Annual Teddy Bear Toss
The annual Medavie Blue Cross Teddy Bear toss will take place during next Sunday's January 16th game against the Drummondville Voyageurs. Fans are asked to bring a teddy bear (in a clear plastic bag if possible) to the game. When the Cats score the first goal of the game fans are to TOSS their teddy bears onto the ice. Wildcat players will then take the time to visit local hospitals and other organizations to give these bears to sick Children.
Upcoming Home Games
Sunday night the Moncton Wildcats host the Rimouski Oceanic at the Moncton Coliseum, game time is 7pm. Clintar Landscape Management is the game sponsor and they will be Clintar. The XL 96 Chuck-A-Puck will be held during the 2nd intermission, fans are encouraged to purchase programs for their chance to participate. If there is a Wildcat Stamp on the Clintar Landscape Management logo on the inside of your program bring it to fan services located behind section 16 to redeem your puck. The winner will receive a XL 96 gift pack as well as a 250 dollar gift voucher from VIA Rail.
