Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs are hitting their offensive stride, and are doing so in a big way. With six goals on Friday night, Lewiston has now scored at least five goals in seven of their last eight games. The six tallies helped put two more points in the standings, as the MAINEiacs picked up a 6-2 victory over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in front of 1,898 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
Lewiston wasted little time in getting on the board, scoring in a matter of just over one minute of play. Olivier Dame-Malka took a shot from the left point that hit off of the post, off of Robin Gusse's back, and in for a 1-0 advantage. Later in the period, the MAINEiacs added to the lead off of another shot from the point. This one was taken by Sam Finn. Sam Henley got a piece of the puck, tipping it over to Bryce Milson, who potted his first goal in a Lewiston uniform.
A few minutes later, the Huskies began to click, putting together one of their better offensive stretches of the night. Jessyko Bernard got the first goal of the game for the visitors, deflecting Mathieu Brisebois' initial shot in from the top of the left circle. 4:42 into the middle frame, Rouyn-Noranda drew even, as Jason Houde scored on a breakaway.
The MAINEiacs were relatively quick to respond, retaking the lead 4:25 later. Stefan Fournier took a long feed from Jonathan Parisien and burst up the right side of the ice. The forward crashed the net hard, leaving a loose puck for Antoine Houde-Caron, who slid the rebound in over the line. Before the end of the second, Lewiston doubled their lead. Matt Bissonnette sent a pass through the slot to Michael Chaput in the right circle. Chaput hesitated, got Gusse to commit, and proceeded to ring his shot in off of the post.
Chaput needed just 31 seconds in the third period to net his second marker of the evening, finishing off a play created by Stefan Fournier and Matt Bissonnette. Then, with 1:37 remaining in the contest, Bryce Milson scored his second of the game, using one hand on his stick to knock the puck in while lunging toward the goal. Milson's tally put the finishing touches on Lewiston's 6-2 win.
Antoine Bibeau earned his second win in as many starts for the MAINEiacs, making 21 saves on 23 shots. Robin Gusse suffered the loss in his debut for the Huskies, allowing six goals on 38 shots.
The MAINEiacs and Huskies will play the second half of their weekend series at 7:00 on Saturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
