Wildcats Complete Sweep of Sea Dogs, Move on to Round 2

The Moncton Wildcats opened defense of their Gilles-Courteau QMJHL Championship with a 4-0 first-round series sweep over the Saint John Sea Dogs. The Cats built up a 7-0 lead into the third period to take down the Sea Dogs 7-3 before 2,500 fans at TD Station Wednesday night.

Preston Lounsbury led the offense with two goals and an assist, Teddy Mutryn delivered a key shorthanded goal and a pair of helpers and defenseman Tommy Bleyl logged three assists. Other Wildcats goals to Gavin Conforth, who scored six goals in the 4-game series, Kuzma Voronin, Gabe Smith and Alex Mercier. Caleb Desnoyers also chipped in with two assists.

Moncton outshot the Dogs 39-22.

The other Cats victories in the series were 5-1, 3-2 O.T. and 6-0.

Moncton will have to wait for other series to finish to determine a second-round opponent. The Wildcats will retain home ice advantage through the QMJHL Playoffs.
