Cape Breton Eagles News Release
NOTES FROM THE GAME
- A two goal game from Ryan Dwyer and another strong showing from Newfoundland goaltender Louis-Antoine Denault helped the Newfoundland Regiment to a 5-1 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles on Wednesday night. The Regiment now lead the best of seven series 3-1.
- Maxime Sauthier scored a power play goal with the assists going to Noah Jettelson and Raoul Boilard.
- Denault stopped 20 of 21 shots in the win. Connor Towle made his QMJHL playoff debut, stopping 26 of 31 shots in the loss.
- Dawson Sharkey was scratched from the Newfoundland lineup, serving the second of a two game suspension.
- Following a video review, a major penalty was assessed to Eagles forward Lucas Romeo for a check to the head in the final two minutes.
- After a delay in their arrival, the Eagles wore specially designed green jerseys for the team's annual Irish night. Raffle tickets were sold in support of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation.
Marek Danicek was sprung on a breakaway on a feed from Will Reynolds in the game's seventh minute and converted, putting a backhand by Towle to open the scoring. Newfoundland was unable to add to the lead on a late power play, but the Eagles did take advantage of their first power play of the game, as Maxime Sauthier found the back of the net to make it 1-1 late in the first period.
Newfoundland regained the lead before the second period was five minutes old, as Towle got a piece of a Dwyer shot but it rolled over him and over the goal line. The lead was extended in the final minute of the second period when Justin Larose spun off in the left offensive zone faceoff circle, moved the puck to Louis-François Bélanger who found the back of the net to make it 3-1.
Dwyer's second of the night came early in the third period, capitalizing after the puck bounced off of Eagles defenseman Aiden McCullough and the rebound came to Dwyer for his second of the evening. Maddex Marmulak finished the scoring just past the 12 minute mark, cashing in on a breakaway to finish the scoring.
The Eagles' season is on the line on Friday night as they host the Regiment for game five.
