Halifax Mooseheads News Release
The Halifax Mooseheads will be facing elimination on Wednesday night at Scotiabank Centre with Chicoutimi on the verge of a Round 1 sweep thanks to a 6-1 dismantling of the Herd on Tuesday in the Nova Scotia capital.
Emmanuel Vermette tallied a hat trick and added an assist to lead the way for the high-powered Sagueneens attack as the second seed in the Eastern Conference earned their third consecutive win to begin the series and pushed the Mooseheads to the brink.
Quinn Kennedy scored the lone Halifax goal which came at the 13:33 mark of the third period and was assisted by Liam Kilfoil and Oleg Kulebiakin.
Owen Bresson returned to the crease for the Mooseheads for the first time since a goalie fight earned him a five game suspension on March 13th in Saint John. He faced 36 shots and made 30 saves.
A trio of players enjoyed three-point efforts for the Sags as Emile Guite scored once and chipped in with a pair of assists while Alex Huang and Maxim Masse each contributed three assists.
Halifax only managed to put 17 shots on Lucas Beckman who made 16 saves for the win.
Forward Jasu Mensonen was a late scratch for the Mooseheads with an illness and the team went with 11 forwards and seven defencemen with blueliner Ryan Fletcher serving as the seventh defenceman. The Sags were without Maxim Schafer who injured his wrist in Game #2 while Emile Ricard served a one-game suspension for kicking.
Overage forward Sam Rousseau was tossed from the game early after a cross checking incident which was called a high stick at 17:16 of the opening period. He was assessed a five minute major and a match penalty which likely means he will be suspended for Game #4.
The Mooseheads will look to stave off elimination on Wednesday at 7pm at Scotiabank Centre. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca
