Mississippi Braves News Release
Montgomery, AL - The Mississippi Braves built an early lead on Monday against the Montgomery Biscuits, but a four-run third inning helped the Biscuits to a 6-2 win at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Braves (6-12) jumped on Montgomery starter Jared Mortensen early. Cedric Hunter walked with one out in the first and Joe Leonard singled, setting up Elmer Reyes for a two-out, two-run double for a 2-0 Mississippi lead.
M-Braves starter Jason Hursh cruised through the first two innings, but trouble came in the third. Jake Hager reached and moved to second on a throwing error by Hursh. Joey Rickard singled and Ryan Britt walked to load the bases for a Taylor Motter game-tying two-run double.
A batter later, Cameron Seitzer singled, then Willie Argo hit a two-run single to give the Biscuits (12-6) a 4-2 lead.
Mississippi continued to threaten against Mortensen, with a man at third in the second and runners on the corners in the third and fourth, but they were unable to push a run across the rest of the way. The Braves clubbed four doubles in the first four innings off the Biscuits' right-hander.
Mortensen (3-0) took the win, allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings. Hursh took the loss, allowing five runs- two earned- on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.
After Hursh, Chasen Shreve and Ronan Pacheco pitched a combined 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
In the fifth, Montgomery plated their fifth run after Seitzer singled and Richie Shaffer hit a double to left-center.
In the eighth, Reliever Ryne Harper walked Luke Maile before Hager singled and Brett took an intentional walk to load the bases. Motter hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track in left to make it 6-2.
It was the fifth straight loss for the Braves, while the Biscuits picked up their sixth consecutive win.
It's a quick turnaround for both teams as the Braves and Biscuits battle in the fourth of five games on Tuesday morning at 10:35 AM CT at Riverwalk Stadium. Right-hander Williams Perez (1-1, 1.26) takes the mound against Biscuits righty Michael Colla (1-1, 4.86).
