Mobile BayBears News Release

HUNTSVILLE, AL --The Mobile BayBears earned their tenth win of the season, dropping the Huntsville Stars 2-1 Monday night at Joe Davis stadium. Mike Freeman provided all the offense while LHP Andrew Chafin and the BayBears bullpen combined to shut down the Stars line up, limiting Huntsville to just three hits in the contest. The win was the first of the year for Chafin who had to settle for three straight no decisions in his first few starts despite only allowing just one earned run over his first 17 innings in the 2014 campaign.

The BayBears entered play with a 6-2 mark in games in which they score first. Freeman wasted no time in game three of the five game series, reaching safely with a lead-off hit in the first at-bat of the game. After steeling second base with no outs, Freeman made it two third on a ground out off the bat of Garret Weber. In the next at-bat Freeman crossed home safely on an RBI ground off the bat of David Peratla.

After the Stars tied the game in the bottom half of the first, Freeman struck again in the top of the third with a solo homerun, his second of the season, giving Mobile a 2-1 lead. Chafin exited the game in the bottom of the seventh with one out and RHP Blake Cooper recorded the final two outs in the frame. Chafin finished with 6.1 innings, allowing just two hits and one run while tallying five strike outs in his first victory of the year. RHP Jake Barrett and Matt Stites shut the Stars out over the final two frames to secure the BayBears tenth win of the year.

The BayBears (10-8) and Stars (11-7) continue the five game series with game four from Huntsville at 6:30 PM Tuesday night. The BayBears will return home to Hank Aaron Stadium for a five game set with the Jackson Generals starting Thursday, April 24, at 7 PM.
