Lookouts Win Marathon Game over Generals in 18 Innings

JACKSON, TENN. (APRIL 21, 2014) - The Jackson Generals (9-9) found themselves on the short end of a 7-4, 18-inning loss in game three of a five-game homestand with the Chattanooga Lookouts (8-10). The game was 5 hours and 18 minutes, the longest game since August 12, 2006, a 20 inning 5 hour, 22 minute game. Generals pitching recorded 22 strikeouts in the game. The loss is the third straight and Jackson drops their first series of 2014.

The Generals held a 4-1 lead entering the seventh inning, prior to a Chattanooga rally.

Trevor Miller (0-2) recorded a season-high seven strikeouts and retired 12 of the last 13 batters faced before exiting in the seventh. The right-hander allowed just three hits and a run on 80 pitches (58 strikes).

The Generals offense provided an early spark to give their pitcher plenty of support. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, Jackson answered with a two-run rally in the home half of the inning.

Ketel Marte (3-7, RBI, R, BB) doubled to score Jamal Austin (1-6, 2 R) before scoring on a single by Nate Melendres (1-5, 2 RBI) several at-bats later. Melendres provided an RBI in the third on a sacrifice fly to score Austin with one-out.

But the Lookouts bounced back, scoring three runs in the seventh. Both teams were held scoreless for 10 innings before Daniel Mayora hit an RBI triple that scored Darnell Sweeney.Scott Schebler added a two-run home run to cap off the Chattanooga 18th and victory.

L- Stephen Shackleford: 4.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO, 1 HR, 5.25 ERA

The Jackson Generals return to action on Tuesday at 11:05 a.m. for game four of their homestand with the Chattanooga Lookouts. RHP Stephen Landazuri (2-1, 1.00 ERA) is scheduled to start for Jackson.
