
Wild Things Win Fourth Straight, Defeat Freedom 7-6

Washington, Pa. - The offense came alive again for the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, as they defeated the Florence Freedom 7-6 Friday night at CONSOL Energy Park.
The Wild Things exploded to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Chris Sidick scored on an error by the catcher. Michael Parker and John Delaney scored on a Mark McGonigle single up the middle. Eric Stephens scored on a Jacob Dempsey sacrifice fly and McGonigle scored on a sacrifice fly by Alan Robbins.
The Freedom got on the board in the top of the second inning when Johnny Welch scored on an error and Cory Wine scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-2.
Florence added a run in the top of the fifth. Wine scored on a Tim Grogan sacrifice fly to make the score 5-3
The Wild Things added on in the bottom of the fifth. McGonigle scored on a single by Dempsey. He then scored on a double by Adam Amar to make to score 7-3.
The Freedom responded quickly and pulled within one in the top of the sixth. Stephen Shults doubled and Welch singled. They both scored when Jimmy Baker hammered a triple to center field. He then scored on a throwing error to make the score 7-6.
Wild Things starter Zach Rosenbaum (1-4) went 5.1 innings. He gave up six runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out three in the victory, his first of the season. Eryk McConnell picked up his eighth save of the season.
Florence starter Mike Jackson (0-1) went 5.2 innings. He gave up seven runs on seven hits. He walked seven and struck out six in the loss.
The Wild Things continue the series against the Florence Freedom Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans receive a Wild Things bobble frame sponsored by CONSOL Energy. Players will also be wearing pin-striped jerseys with the number four in honor of Lou Gehrig. The jerseys will be auctioned off and all proceeds will benefit the ALS Foundation.
