Grizzlies rout Windy City

SAUGET, ILL.- The Gateway Grizzlies scored 17 times on 19 hits Friday night, routing the Windy City Thunderbolts 17-6 in the opener of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark.

The Grizzlies (21-20) scored at least a run in seven of the eight innings in which they hit. They scored three times in the first inning to open up a 3-0 lead and never trailed.

Windy City (20-20) scored a run in the first inning then three in the third to get within three runs at 7-4. Gateway added four runs each in the second and third innings to open up an 11-4 lead. The Grizzlies scored a run in the fourth to go up 12-4 before Windy City scored its final two runs in the fifth. The Grizzlies closed it out with a run in the fourth, another in the fifth, three in the seventh and a final run in the eighth.

The Grizzlies hit five home runs Friday night. Charlie Lisk and Brandon Peters each hit two for the Grizzlies. Breck Draper had the other. Peters finished the night 4 for 6 with four RBIs and four runs. Lisk was 2 for 5 with five RBIs and three runs. Draper was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and four runs. Logan Parker was 3 for 5 with an RBI and two runs. Jason Patton was 2 for 5 with two RBIs.

Mark Brackman (3-4) earned the win for the Grizzlies. Brackman allowed all six runs in five innings. He struck out six. Sean Toler worked two scoreless innings in relief for the Grizzlies. Eric Gilliland and Eric Blackwell each worked a scoreless inning.

The Grizzlies and Thunderbolts continue the series at GCS Ballpark Saturday night. First pitch is set for 6:05 pm.
