Lake Erie wins series opener 6-1

(AVON, Ohio)- The Lake Erie Crushers defeated the Evansville Otters 6-1 at All Pro Freight Stadium on Friday night.

The Crushers scored a run in the first inning and added to the lead with a rally in the second. With Evansville starter Angelo Morales pitching, Julio Rivera singled home a run and Jodam Rivera scored two more later in the inning.

Ahead 4-0, the Crushers added two more runs in the fifth inning to extend the lead.

Evansville rallied back in the top of the sixth as Derek Wiley led off with a double and Estee Harris followed with another two-base hit to plate the run. Lake Erie starter Esmelvin Jimenez worked his way around trouble as he allowed just one run over his six innings of work.

Eduardo Perez pitched 2 2/3 hitless innings out of the bullpen for the Otters and Jeff Cinadr pitched the final three innings for the Lake Erie save.

The Crushers improve to 22-18 with the win as the Otters are currently 14-26 after losing their seventh game in a row.

Both teams meet again tomorrow in the middle game of the three game series. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM EST from All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio.
