Traverse City, MI - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, topped the Traverse City Beach Bums 5-1 Friday night at Wuerfel Park in the first game of a three game series. Normal starter Tyler Lavigne tossed his second consecutive complete game to earn the win.

Lavigne worked all nine innings giving up a first inning run before scattering five hits, and striking out five hitters while only walking one. Lavigne was six over the minimum for hitters faced, and picked up his seventh win of the 2010 campaign.

Normal's offense was held in check until the third inning before the CornBelters pushed across an unearned run. Leading the way for the CornBelters' offense was third basemen Daniel Cox who broke out of a small slump by going 2-4 with 2 runs driven in. The other RBIs came off the bats of Ross McCoy and Brad Augustin who had one apiece, and second basemen Eric Brown joined Cox with a multi hit game, going 2-4.

Dan Blewett will take the mound for Normal in game two of the series. Blewett is coming off a complete game shutout of his own in his last start, and enters the game with a 3-3 record. Game time is set for 6:05 pm local time with pregame beginning at 5:45pm local time.
