Washington Wild Things News Release

The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, took an early lead and managed to hold off the late-charging Chillicothe Paints by a score of 8-6. The victory moved the Wild Things' record to 4-3, and dropped Chillicothe to 4-1.

Washington's leadoff hitter Jack Headley led off the first inning with a walk, and Mike Arbinger reached base after being hit by a pitch, paving the way for L.J. Biernbaum's sacrifice fly, and Bill Greenwell's RBI single.

However, the score was quickly tied at two when Chillicothe's Dustin Brisson led off the bottom of the second with a solo homerun. Eric Goerdt and Beau Blacken followed with back-to-back doubles.

But the Wild Things' opened a sizable lead in the sixth. Five Wild Things' collected hits in the inning, and just as many scored, giving Washington an 8-2 lead.

Chillicothe would make it interesting by scoring one in the sixth, two in the third, and one in the eighth. But Washington's B.J. Borsa got out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth and picked up his first save of the season by cruising through the ninth.

Headley led Washington with three hits, three walks, and two runs. Randy McGarvey added three hits and an RBI.

Chillicothe—the Frontier League East Division leaders—was led by Tony Constentino, who had a homerun, double, and three RBI.

Washington's Grant Dorn earned his first victory of the season. He allowed three runs and eight hits over six innings of work. Jeff Hunter was handed the loss after allowing three runs and 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings.
